Children - Summer Reading Club
The 2013 Summer Reading Club “Have Book – Will Travel” has successfully ended! We had 138 Summer Reading Club participants this year! Out of the 138 participants, 61 children completed the program but those who did not complete still turned in many hours. Almost 1,200 hours of reading were recorded this summer! In return for recording their 3 hours every week, each child received a kindness coin valued at fifty cents to help support their local and global organizations. The children earned $248.00 and we have rounded that number to $250; the American Red Cross will receive $125 and UNICEF will receive the other $125.00. Great job participants! The Peoria Heights Public Library would like to thank all of the children and families for participating in this year’s Summer Reading Club! We hope to see all of you again next summer!
We would also like to say thank you to all of our talented performers and special guests! This year’s travel-themed club began on June 4th with Wildlife Prairie Park’s “Zoomobile” program. We also had African crafts, a migration program with Dean Johnston from Forest Park Nature Center, kids movies for each continent, henna tattoos by the Zoo Lady, Fashion crafts, a bicycle safety program by Nick McCumber from the Peoria Heights Police Department, Family Dinner and Magic night with magician Rick Eugene, Australian crafts, and a Teen Career Day! The children were very busy! Our final party, Glow-in-the-Dark Juggling Show, was held on July 23. We served snacks from around the world and enjoyed the juggling and comedic talents of Tory Roark from Elsenpeter Productions!
To all of our sponsors, we thank for going above and beyond by supporting our club! Your generosity has helped to make this entire program successful!
