Peoria author Monica Vest Wheeler is conducting research to compile a record of Peoria Heights history. She will be a the library on July 7, 8, 22, 23 to interview people who are willing to share stories about this village’s past. Please call the library at 682-5578 to reserve a time and for more information. Old photos, letters, and related items that can be photographed or scanned are also needed. GreenFILE,:  Recently, EBSCO Publishing announced the release of GreenFILE, a bibliographic database of information about environmental concerns. This database is being made freely available at www.greeninfoonline.com.

GreenFILE indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. This resource offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE serves as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet. The database contains nearly 300,000 records, full text for selected titles and searchable cited references for more than 200 titles as well.

Talking Books  Talking Books is a free service, providing books and magazines on cassette and Braille, descriptive videos, and other services free to individuals of any age.

The Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center with offices in East Peoria and Quincy,  provide free library service for anyone unable to read regular print because of a visual or physical disability. They have books and magazines on tape and playback equipment; and also in Braille. Books and magazines are mailed free to and from library patrons, wherever they reside. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron. Currently, we serve approximately 5,000 active readers. Their office is open 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Monday-Friday, phone number is (800)426-0709. The Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center has a new web page, check them out.
